![]() ![]() ![]() We tested the WundaSmart Starter Kit (opens in new tab), which we feel brings something new to the stuffed smart thermostat market. Read the full review: Tado Smart Thermostat The Tado Smart Thermostat isn't currently available in the US, but as Tado's Cooling system is sold there, we'd be surprised if it didn't become available at some point. There are no self-learning capabilities, either. However, we found the app unintuitive to navigate compared to the incredibly user-friendly app on the Evohome. Tado has also recently announced a stylish new black model and dark mode for its app, as well as research that shows its smart thermostats can save users an average of 22% on their heating bills over the course of a year. It also stands out as it's one of a few smart thermostats that work with Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple's HomeKit – if you're the proud owner of a HomePod, or you're firmly entrenched in the Apple ecosystem, this is probably the best WiFi thermostat for you. The Tado Smart Thermostat is an easy-to-use smart thermostat that boasts a simplistic design and can be used on its own or with additional radiator valves for zonal control. However, it's worth it for the granular control you get over your heating. It's expensive, too - as you'll need a smart valve for each radiator in your home. The control panel and radiator thermostats aren't going to win any design awards, coming as they do in plain white plastic, but that's not really the point of the Evohome. Moreover, it works with under-floor heating, too, so even if you have a large and complicated heating system, Evohome gives you total control over all of it via an app that's a pleasure to use. But, if you live in a house where different inhabitants prefer a different temperature, or if one room always seems hotter or colder than the others, this system will be a godsend. It's difficult to grasp what a difference this feature makes until you've tried it for yourself. ![]() The Honeywell Evohome gives you total control over your home, with individual thermostats for each radiator enabling you to set an independent heating schedule for every room in your house. For example, the best smart plugs and best smart lights can be programmed to operate alongside your thermostat, creating the perfect streamlined home routine. You may think things stop there, but smart thermostats are great for integrating with other smart home devices you may have around. Some devices even have a smart assistant built-in. You can control them with your smartphone, or if you already have one of the best smart speakers, using just your voice. No matter which way you decide to go, the best smart thermostats on this list are all designed to make heating and cooling your home easier and cheaper. As you might expect, the second type costs a little more initially with the need for smart radiator valves and cooling vents. However, when considering which smart thermostat would be best for your home, you should be aware that there are two fundamental types - those that control the whole house and those that allow you to customize each room or area's climate. There is certainly compelling evidence that they do save users time and money, and going into the colder months, that's two things we'd all like more of.
